Uzbekistan, Geography and Demographics

Uzbekistan is 56th largest coutry of theworld by area and 42nd by population. Among the CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) it is 5th largest by area and 3rd largest by population. It is little less than Sweden in area.It is extended east -west in length and approximately 1.5 times larger than its breadth. It is a doubly landlicked country.The highest point is the Khazret Sultan (15,233 ft) just north west of Dushanbe.


It is divided into 12 provinces, Tashkent is a great city and capital of Uzbekistan. Other important cities are Samarkhand, Bukhara etc.
There are five countries in Central Asia. i) (from the north) Kazakhstan,ii)Turkmenistan, iii)Uzbekistan, iv) Kyrgystan, and v)Tajikstan.
In Central Asia Uzbekstan is the most populous Country.Its 27.7 million people in July, 2007, nearly half the region of total population in central Asia of which 34.1 % are less than 14 years. (est. 2008)Uzbek comprise majority (80 %) of people, then Russian, Tajik, Kazak etc. It has also some Korean population forcibly relocated by stalin in 1937-38. 88 % are Muslims.
Islam is by far the dominant religion in Uzbekistan.
Uzbek is the official state lenguage.
According to official sources the number of cellular phone (est. March,2008) 7 million, up from 3.7 in July,
