Nigeria, introduction


Nigeria, officially known as the Federal Republic of Nigeria, is a federal constitutional republic comprising of 36 states and one federal Capital territory. The country is located in west Africabordering Benin in the west, Chad and cameroon in the east, Niger in the north and the Gulf of Guinea in the south.The capital city is Abuja.The three largest and most influencial ethnic groups in Nigeria are the Hausa,Igbo, and Yoruba.
The People of Nigeria hve an extensive history, and archeological evience shows that human habitation of the area dates back to at least 9000 BCE. The benue- Cross river area is thought to be the original homeland of the Bantu migrants who spread across most of central and southern Africa in waves between the 1st millenium BCE and the 2nd millineum CE.

The name Nigeria was created from a portmanteau of the wordsNiger and Area, taken from the river Niger running through Nigeria,This name was coined by Flora Shaw, the future wife of Baron Lugard, a British colonial administrator, in the late 19th. century.
It is the most populous country in Africa and eight populous country in the world. it is the world's most populous black country. it's recent economic growth is 9 % in 2008 and 8.3 5 in 2009. But the majority of the population of the country lives in absolute poverty.
It is the world's 25th country from bottom and its rank in the national average per capita income using atlas method (est.2003) is 179 th. with 320 US $.
