Lao-Pathet Lao


The Pathet lao (Land of Laos) was a communist , nationalist political movement and organisation in Laos, formed in the mid-20th. century.it successfully assumed political power after a civil war or inurgent revolution from 1950 to 1975.pathet Lao was always closely associated with the Vietnamese Communists.
The organisation under this name first appeared in 1950, when it was adoptedby Laos forces under Prince Souphanouvong, who joined the Viet Minh's revolt against the colonial french authorities in Indochimaduring the First Indochina War.In 1956 a legal political wing , the Lao patriotic front , was founded and participated in several governments. In the 60s and early 70's the Pathet Lao fought a civil war against the US-backed forces winning effective control in the north and east.
Kaysone Phomvihane (1920 - 1992) was the leader of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party from 1955, though Souphangouvong served in afigurehead role.Kaysone was the first Prime Minister and the he was the Presidentuntil his death in 1992.
