Rivers & lakes
Mauritius has some 10 lakes, most of them small and artificially designed in order to ensure the drinking water supply. The largest lake is the Mare aux Vacoas.
Most of the rivers have their source in the uplands of Mauritius, where the rain falls on the mountain slopes. The longest river is the Grand Rivière Sud Est.
