Indian Association of alcutta was an orgnisation of the educated middle class with a view to creating public opinion by by direct appeals to the people. A big public meeting was held in calcutta. Subsequently, there weremeetings at Agra, Lahore, Amritsar, Meerut, Allahabad, Delhi, Cawnpore, Lucknow, Aligarh and Benaras. The agitation was the awakening of a spirit of unity of India. His tour was a great success. Henry Cotton wrote in his book about this which attracted Lord Lawrence. An appeal was made to House of commons not to lower the age limit but to increase the upper limit so that more students could participate. An well known barrister, Lal Mohan Ghosh was sent to England for explaining the issue. Thus the deputation to England brought a grand success. Similar Agitations were made for Arms act and Vernacular Press act.Ultimately this organisation took an All india safe and conference was called at Clcutta in 1883.during the same year a retired civilian Allan Octavian Hume convened a conference at Bombay where W.C.Banerjee presided over the conference in 1885, and thus Indian National congress was founded.Seventy delegates attended the conference.
