Lake Tanganyika, western border of Burundi

Tanganyika is a large lake in Central Africa in the western border of Buruni.It is the third largest freshwater lake in the world by volume and the second ddepest , after lake Baikal in Siberia.
It is divided between four countries, Burundi, DRC, Tanzania and Zambia. DRC 45 % and tanzania and zambia 41 % being the major shareholder of the water resources.The water flows into the Cong river system to go to the Atlantic.









The lake holds 250 species of cichlid fish and 150 non-cichlid species
It supplies 25-40 % of the protien to people living around the lake.
It was the scene of two famous battles during the world War I

In 1965 Argentinian revolutionary Che Guevara used the western shores of lake Tanganyika as a training camp for guerrilla forces in the Congo but he was betrayed.

It has got very beautiful scenery and a picnic spot.
